The Devil's Pussy

By Brett Mullins

Released: 2010

Written and Directed by Jason Roth

The Devil’s Pussy is a suggestively named, six minute short that chooses not to follow the conventional linear sequence of events. During it’s short run time, the film cuts back and forth throughout the story chronicling the tale of an ordinary suburban family who purchases a seemingly ordinary cat. This cat, however, progressively reeks havoc on this family’s life and may just be an incarnate of Satan.

This film does not take itself seriously in any regard and, as a result, comes off more as a spoof film than anything. This short does its best to hold the audience’s interest; however, it falls short by not really elaborating much (though this is difficult to accomplish in six minutes). The pet store clerk, played by Chris Eddy, does an excellent job portraying a mad scientist type character.

There is a bit of confusion on whether this is an oddly put together spoof film or a trailer poking fun at the preview style of the Golden Age of cinema. Either way, The Devil’s Pussy isn’t a bad film and may be worth the watch during some spare time.

Rating: 4/10
